South Park scores highest ratings in seven years with historic one-hour season 24 premiere special
The season 24 episode titled The Pandemic Special was the first special and first one-hour episode in the 23-year history of The Comedy Central show.
The Pandemic Special drew 2.3 million viewers on Comedy Central and combined with simulcasts became the highest-rated scripted telect on pay cable in 2020, according to an article Thursday by Deadline.

The season premiere was simulcast on MTV and MTV2 along with two primetime encores on Comedy Central and drew 4.05 million total viewers total.
Show creators Trey Parker, 50, and Matt Stone, 49, executive produce the show and voice many of the male characters, while Trey was credited with writing and directing the season 24 premiere.
‘We’re thrilled with South Park’s return and it’s clear the audience was as well,’ said Chris McCarthy, president of entertainment and youth brands for ViacomCBS.
‘The success is a testament to Matt and Trey’s creative genius and we used our full portfolio to let everyone know it’s back – propelling it to the number one scripted telecast of 2020 and delivering its highest ratings in seven years,’ the executive told Deadline.
Show creators: Matt Stone and Trey Parker, shown in February 2017 in Australia, created the show and serve as executive producers while also providing most of the main male voices
The South Park premiere also had a strong presence on social media with 2.2 million of its 4.8 million views driven by MTV, VH1, CMT, Paramount Network, TV Land and Pop TV.
The raunchy episode found Randy March sharing responsibility for the coronavirus pandemic with Disney mascot Mickey Mouse after they both had sex with a Pangolin in China.
Eric Cartman meanwhile had been enjoying quarantine away from school and resisted efforts to return to South Park Elementary.
