On October 9, 2020, Batalon took to his Instagram account to share a recent mirror selfie with the world, shocking fans by showing off his slim physique. In the caption of the post, he made sure to aim at those who previously body-shamed him when he was heavier, telling them, “By the way, while I appreciate the concern, people can stop telling me to lose weight now.”
Batalon certainly seems very happy with his weight loss and newly muscular physique — and, when all is said and done, his opinion is the only one that should matter to him. Whether or not there’s a reason for his body transformation is unknown, but the actor will at the very least be able to show it off in the next Spider-Man movie.
In both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Batalon plays Ned, the best friend and schoolmate of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Even though he wasn’t the main character of either film, Ned’s natural charisma helped him stand out and supply some strong comic relief. Not to mention, Batalon’s real-life chemistry with Holland makes their on-screen companionship especially resonant with audiences. It’ll be interesting to see how their relationship is affected by Far From Home‘s cliffhanger ending, which put Peter on the run after The Daily Bugle‘s J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) outed him as Spider-Man.
If nothing else, Batalon’s Ned in Spider-Man 3 will look much different from his previous appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe he’ll throw down with some comic-book-based baddies in the upcoming flick? Fingers crossed.
Spider-Man 3 is currently set to swing into theaters on December 17, 2021.
