‘Not going to stay;’ Ex-teammate tips Diogo Jota to ‘go higher’ – Rousing The Kop – Liverpool FC News

An ex-teammate of Diogo Jota doesn’t see a long-term future at Liverpool for the forward. He believes he’ll ‘go higher’ than the Reds.

Pacos de Ferreira midfielder Stephen Eustaquio might play for Canada now but he started with Portugal. The midfielder was a part of the youth setup, where he played alongside Diogo Jota.

And Eustaqiuo clearly thinks highly of his ex-teammate. So highly, in fact, that he sees him going beyond Liverpool.

“Jota was in Paços, Atlético, Porto, Liverpool,” he told La Vanguardia. “Works a lot. He is a very hard-working person, very delicate with the ball, he plays a lot.

“He is not going to stay [at Liverpool], he is going to go higher. I shared a dressing room with him, he was captain of the Portugal Under-21 team and in bad times he showed a very strong personality.

“He is a very humble person and deserves to be where he is.”

What RTK has to say

Well, Liverpool only just bought Jota for £41m – so they won’t expect him to go anywhere soon.

More than that, Jota will likely be the plan for the long-term future at Anfield. Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are all nearly 30, after all, and it’s time for the next generation.

Jota, at 23, is a part of that. He’s not at the level of the other three year but he soon will be. Fingers crossed he can go even further than that, as unlikely as that is.

But no, we’re not worried about Jota ‘going higher’ than Liverpool. The Reds have the power to hold onto their top players or we’d have seen several leave over the last two years.

Liverpool is now somewhere players get better and win the biggest trophies. That will keep even the supremely talented around for the long-term.
